Sarajevo 1984: Sports Pictograms

The very successful sports pictograms of Sarajevo 1984 are strongly reminiscent of the sports pictograms of Munich 1972. They are formed from the same basic elements of the head, arms, legs and trunk, supplemented by additional fine lines, which indicate the speed of movement. The lines give these pictograms a very dynamic effect, as is also the case with those of Grenoble 1968. No separate pictogram was designed for the Nordic combined competitions as was the case in Sapporo in 1972. Four colours from the colour palette were assigned to the individual sports, as also reflected in the printed matter, tickets and decoration of the sports facilities. The dominant colour for all alpine competitions, for example, was turquoise, as can be seen in the picture below.
