The story behind the poster

The poster shows a group of athletes making the Olympic salute. In front of them are palm leaves, a symbol of victory, and the city of Paris coat of arms. The French flag floats in the background. A contest was set up by the Organising Committee to produce the official poster. One hundred and fifty projects by artists were received, of which two were kept and used to promote the Games: that of artist Jean Droit (above) and that of the artist named Orsi. Distribution: Some 10,000 copies of each of the posters by Droit and Orsi were printed, over half of which were destined to be sent abroad.
