Albertville 1992’s “brushstroke sports pictograms” are pure handwork. Alain Doré drew them line by line, one after the other and in several repetitions, until he was satisfied with the result. Thus Doré’s sports pictograms differ greatly from those of earlier Games, for example from the “pioneer” pictograms of Tokyo 1964. The basic theme of Doré’s pictograms is movement. Thus they look stylistically similar to the star-shaped mascot Magique. The sports pictograms and mascot fit seamlessly into the general visual concept of the Games, for which the agency Desgrippes & Associés, to which Alan Doré also belonged, was responsible. The pictogram for the Cultural Olympiad was designed in addition to the existing mark and integrated into the series of signage pictograms.
