The main motif of the emblem – like that of the official poster – is based on an ancient Greek marble relief from the Parthenon in Athens, which belongs to the so-called Elgin Marbles. The relief
shows a young naked rider with a cape riding on his horse without bridle. The emblem of the Stockholm Equestrian Games is a graphically reduced depiction of the original relief from the
Acropolis. The emblem was only used in one colour, while the typography and Greek ornamentation (palmette) around the symbol were designed in very different variations.
