The Organising Committee of the Games commissioned the French graphic designer and type designer Roger Excoffon to design the emblem. The result of his design is a perfect symbiosis of the following four elements: the hexagonal snow crystal as a symbol of winter, the three stylised red roses taken from the coat of arms of Grenoble, the Olympic rings and the text “Xes Jeux Olympiques d’hiver – Grenoble 1968”. The emblem was designed exclusively with French text. The dominant colours are strongly based on the colours of the tricolour. Interestingly, the Olympic rings in this emblem are represented only in one colour. There are different variants of the Games emblem in different colours and arrangements.
