Mascots 2D
The word mascot has been traced back to a dialectic use in Provence and Gascony, where it was used to describe anything which brought luck to a household.
The first Olympic mascot appeared in Tokyo 1964 but only seen as a pin without having a name. The next appearence was the Mascot "Shuss" from Grenoble 1968 and followed by the mexican pink jaguar in the same year. For the first time an „official mascot“ appeared in Munich 1972 as “Waldi”, a Bavarian sausage dog. Since then all the Games have had their own mascots. Initially one, now 2, 3, 4 or 5 different species as in Beijing 2008 are being produced mainly due to marketing reasons. Moreover they are being manufactured in all kinds of material and for various purposes. As from 1976 mascots have been illustrated in different poses.
